Trout Day Trips

Spend a day with us fly fishing for native Redband trout on the Lower Deschutes River. We will work closely with you all day using a variety of fly fishing methods (dry fly, dry dropper, traditional nymphing, European nymphing, or trout spey) based on your fly fishing goals and river conditions. We three different options for our day trips on the Lower Deschutes. Your guide will choose the float depending on river conditions and hatches.

We offer trips year-round, so you can pick the best time that works for you to fly fish on the Deschutes. While spring, summer and fall are our busiest times of year, winter fly fishing on the Lower Deschutes can be very productive. Book a trip with us in the winter and experience the river without the pressure on the trout. There’s a reason why us guides don’t stop fly fishing on the Deschutes when winter comes around, and we’d love to show you given the weather cooperates.

We can provide rods, flies, and tippet for the trip, but feel free to bring your own. All anglers will need to bring their own waders and boots, sun protection, and a valid Oregon fishing license. Make sure you purchase an Oregon fishing license online before you come to Maupin. There are no vendors in Maupin selling fishing licenses.

Day Trip Schedule

On our Deschutes River trout fishing day trips, your guide will meet you at 8 a.m. at Kaiser Park where you can safely park your vehicle for the day. This park is conveniently located next door to Deschutes Angler Fly Shop where you can find a huge selection of flies and gear as well as rent waders. After we make sure you have all the gear you need for the trip, we will head to the launch point for the day and get on the water fishing our way through the wide variety of water types that the Deschutes has to offer.

We will provide lunch and ice water for the trip, and will have cooler space for any drinks or snacks you’d like to bring yourself. Snacks, drinks, and adult beverages can be purchased at Maupin Market in town. Around noon we’ll find a good spot on the river to have lunch. You can always fish while we prepare lunch, or just relax on the riverbank. Let us know if you have any dietary restrictions prior to the trip and we will be happy to accommodate.

After refueling with a hearty lunch we head back out utilizing what we have learned about trout activity for the day to ensure we have a strong finish full of tight lines.

By 4:30 p.m. we will be making our way to the take out to make sure you are back in Maupin around 5:30 p.m. ready to make your way home or to a local restaurant, where you can of course share all your fish stories with the local anglers.

If you take a look at our Pre-Trip Information page you will find everything you need to know about places to eat and stay in Maupin before and after your trip.

Let your guide know if you have an earlier time that you need to be off the water so they can account for that in float decision.

Please note that we use drift boats to cover water efficiently and access the left bank of the Lower Deschutes (which is not accessible to car traffic), but we legally cannot fish from the drift boats unless you have an Oregon Disabilities Hunting and Fishing Permit.

Trout Day Trip Rates- $550 per boat + cost of boaters pass, each boat can accommodate up to two anglers.
